Following initial success supporting grassroots football, the GiveToLocal team expanded our incentivised-giving service to a number of different sports earlier this month.
In an effort to provide sustainable funding for community sports across the UK during the COVID-19 crisis we now support affiliated clubs in basketball, cricket, hockey, netball, swimming, volleyball and both codes of rugby.
And stars of the sporting world have flocked to support GiveToLocal, with Les Ferdinand (Football), Steve Harmison (Cricket), Adam Peaty (Swimming), Peter Bakare (Volleyball) and Vickii Cornborough (Rugby Union) all pledging their support to our #InspiredToGive campaign…with more recognisable faces to follow.
Alongside the support from big-name internationals, we also introduced our 21 days of giveaways, with cash and kit vouchers, courtesy of our new partners at Kitlocker, up for grabs.
And an eye-catching campaign show no signs of slowing down after one lucky club, Rugby Borough FC, bagged themselves a whopping £2,000 as part our biggest giveaway yet.
So far, GiveToLocal has shared nearly £7,000 in social media giveaways.
And a delighted Neil Gardiner is overjoyed by how the campaign has gone so far.
Our Chief Executive said: “I’m thrilled with the response we’ve had to our #InspiredToGive campaign.
“Being able to provide some relief to sports clubs across the UK is a little overwhelming at times.
“Watching everyone, from across the country, get involved on our Facebook page for our 6pm giveaways is really cool and it’s great to see it bringing people together during an unprecedented time of uncertainty.”
With the UK-wide lockdown continuing for the foreseeable future, the importance of community spirit is needed now more than ever.
Part of the reason GiveToLocal was founded was to bring communities together by connecting local businesses and community sports clubs - allowing them to grow side-by-side.
And with the COVID-19 crisis prompting an increased focus on community spirit, Neil is reinforcing an ethos at the heart of our organisation.
“It’s incredibly important that we all stick together during the UK-wide shut down,” said Neil.
“I understand that everyone’s situation is different and that it must be incredibly hard for some people to be cooped up day after day.
“Nobody could have predicted this scenario. The impact it could have on both community sports and local businesses is worrying.
“But we have to make sure that we all stick together because the only way we’ll all get through this is by relying on one another.”
Look out for Justin Lockwood on our Facebook page at 6pm every day for details on the latest GiveToLocal giveaway.
