Peaty Provides GiveToLocal Support

Olympic champion and world record breaking swimmer Adam Peaty has backed GiveToLocal’s #InspiredToGive campaign.

The new initiative is aimed at supporting local communities during the coronavirus crisis and beyond.

Last week, ex-England internationals Les Ferdinand and Steve Harmison both got behind the #InspiredToGive campaign.

And now Peaty has joined the ever-growing list of sporting professionals keen to support GiveToLocal’s mission.

A keen swimmer from a young age, a nine-year-old Peaty started out on his pathway to stardom at Dove Valley Swimming Club.

And he admits that without the support of Dove Valley, his career would not have taken him to the top of the swimming world.

“Most people know me as an Olympic champion and world record breaking swimmer,” said Adam.

“But without the swimming club that gave me my first opportunity, none of what I have achieved would have been possible.”

With the fight against COVID-19 dominating everyday life, community sports clubs face a challenging future.

As part of a wider initiative, Peaty is championing the work of NHS and frontline workers at a time when their key contribution has never been more vital.

But he was also keen to emphasise his support for community sports through GiveToLocal’s #InspiredToGive campaign.

“At this moment in time, we all need to get behind the NHS and frontline workers who are doing extraordinary things,” said Adam.

“But let’s not forget our community sports clubs. They provide essential opportunities for young and old to get involved and stay active.

“They are also having a really tough time and need our support so I’m really pleased to support the #InspiredToGive campaign.

“If we can all do a little bit, it really will make a difference.”

Chief Executive Neil Gardiner believes that having the backing of an Olympian like Peaty can only help GiveToLocal’s mission to increase the funding available to local community sports clubs and businesses.

“To have the support of an Olympian like Adam is massive for us and I’d like to echo his sentiment,” said Neil.

“At the moment, times are really tough across the entire country and we all have a role to play in helping our local communities survive this current situation.

“The GiveToLocal team has made a commitment to work hard to help all the teams, clubs and businesses that join the GiveToLocal community.

“So to have the support of an Olympic gold medallist means the world.”
